E’ morto John le Carré, aveva 89 anni

John le Carré, pseudonimo di David John Moore Cornwell, è morto all’età di 89 anni. Lo scrittore britannico è autore di molti fra i più venduti romanzi di spionaggio ed è stato un agente segreto del Secret Intelligence Service.
«David Cornwell, vero nome di John Le Carré è morto sabato nell’ospedale pubblico di Truro, in Cornovaglia, dopo una breve malattia, una polmonite – scrive John Geller, l’agente dello scrittore – . Un dolore enorme per la sua cara moglie Jane e i suoi quattro figli Nicholas, Timothy, Stephen e Simon».
Geller specifica Le Carrè non è morto per Covid19 e aggiunge: «Come agente ho rappresentato Le Carrè per 15 anni. Ho perso un mentore ma soprattutto un amico. Non ce ne saranno più come lui».
La famiglia ha confermato che Le Carré è morto di polmonite al Royal Cornwall Hospital, a Treliske, la notte di sabato. Lascia la moglie Jane e 4 figli.
«Per sei decenni - si legge nella nota - John Le Carrè (il cui vero nome era David Cornwell, ndr) ha dominato le classifiche dei bestseller con il suo monumentale corpus di opere». Attraverso il suo personaggio George Smiley, Le Carré ha descritto in moltissimi romanzi gli intrighi spionistici della guerra fredda, forte di una personale esperienza come agente dei servizi segreti britannici. La fama mondiale giunse quando aveva 32 anni, nel 1963, con il terzo romanzo, "La spia che venne dal freddo".
